As nursing homes experienced unprecedented staff turnover, the need became apparent to get “back to the essentials” and provide education related to essentials for the Minimum Data Set (MDS), Skilled Care, and PDPM. Medicare audits occur frequently throughout the health care continuum and assurance that your documentation supports the care you provide to a resident is crucial to assuring your Medicare reimbursement is not affected. Decreasing occupancy and the increasing need for financial stability means that LTC organizations need to assure they accurately capture every dollar of Medicare reimbursement.
This three-part webinar series will provide members the knowledge of what “skill” services are available, the interdisciplinary team documentation requirements to support this service, and MDS coding, plus how to audit Medicare charts.
To Skill or Not to Skill
What is “Skill” for nursing under Medicare Part A? This presentation will discuss the characteristics that support a resident requiring skilled care in a skilled nursing facility.
- Define “Skilled” care under a Medicare Part A stay.
- Verbalize the components of skilled documentation: Observation, Assessment, and Monitoring on a daily basis.
- List three examples of skilled nursing care and how to ensure the documentation supports it.
1.0 CEs will be offered for this webinar.
