OUR AGING POPULATION: UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH
OVERVIEW
The webinar is designed to better understand and address the mental health challenges faced by their residents. It will focus on identifying early signs of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety and provide practical strategies for effectively supporting residents. The session will cover communication techniques, creating a compassionate environment, and when to involve healthcare professionals. By the end of the webinar, participants will be equipped with the tools to recognize mental health concerns, respond with sensitivity, and promote a healthier, more supportive living environment for their residents.
Objectives:
- Recognize common mental health conditions in older adults (e.g., depression, anxiety, dementia, late-onset psychosis) and understand how they present differently than in younger populations
- Increase awareness of ageism by identifying its impact on mental health, healthcare access, and self-perception, among older adults.
- Learn evidence-based interventions and resources available for supporting geriatric mental health, including therapeutic approaches, lifestyle modification, and community services
