Event Details

RESTORATIVE NURSE AIDE CONPETENCY TRAIING & EVALUATION WORKSHOP

This one-day workshop is designed to educate nursing assistants with the knowledge and skill sets necessary to provide effective restorative care to those they serve. This workshop, instructed by experienced therapy professionals, combines lectures, discussion, Q & A, hands-on demonstration along with participant return demonstration to ensure competency. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will receive a copy of their completed competency checklist to provide for their employer.

The workshop includes an overview of restorative nursing programs including range of motion, splints and braces, activities of daily living, transfers, bed mobility, ambulation, body mechanics, eating, safe swallowing, amputation and prosthetic care, bladder and bowel continence, communication and cognition. Finally, because restorative nursing and therapy services work closely together, triggers that would possibly indicate a need for additional therapy evaluation will be discussed along with appropriate nurse aide response to these situations.

Objectives:

  • Define the role of the restorative nursing assistant in providing care to residents in the long-term care setting.
  • List the benefits and goals of a comprehensive nursing program.
  • Demonstrate competencies included in restorative programs.
  • Identify characteristics that may indicate a therapy referral is appropriate.
