OVERVIEW
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released updated surveyor guidance within the State Operations Manual (SOM) Appendix PP. These updates involve the removal, revision, and addition of new F-tags, reflecting CMS’s heightened expectations in key areas to improve the quality of care in nursing homes nationwide. This webinar will cover all significant changes in Appendix PP and detail the new expectations to ensure your nursing home achieves substantial compliance by the effective date in February, 2025.
OBJECTIVES:
- Outline new requirements to maintain compliance with nursing home regulations.
- Define when an unnecessary psychotropic medication may be considered a chemical restraint.
- Establish strategies to incorporate health equity into the quality assurance process.

Kellie Van Ree, Director of Clinical Services, LeadingAge Illinois
Kellie Van Ree started her career in long-term care as a dietary aide, working short shifts after school, later advancing to a certified nurse’s aide and a certified medication aide. In 2003, Kellie graduated from Kirkwood Community College, serving as an LPN, later returning to Kirkwood to complete her associate degree in applied science, and successfully completed RN boards. In 2009, Kellie again returned to Bellevue University to complete her bachelor’s degree in long-term care administration. In addition to being a state surveyor for a short period of time, Kellie served in many positions throughout a long-term care continuum including a home health nurse, corporate consultant, director of nursing, and administrator before becoming the director of clinical services with LeadingAge Iowa.
